A natural diamond is a diamond formed in the earth's mantle under extreme heat and pressure over billions of years, brought closer to the surface by volcanic activity and then mined from kimberlite pipes or alluvial deposits. It is chemically identical to a lab-grown diamond, pure carbon in a cubic crystal structure, but it formed in an uncontrolled geological environment rather than a laboratory. Natural diamonds carry geological rarity and often a provenance story that lab-grown stones cannot replicate.

What is the difference between a natural diamond and a lab-grown diamond?
They are chemically and physically identical, both pure carbon crystals graded on the same 4Cs. The difference is origin: a natural diamond took billions of years to form underground, while a lab-grown diamond is created in weeks in a controlled environment. Natural diamonds command higher resale values; lab-grown diamonds offer more size for budget.
Are natural diamonds more valuable than lab-grown?
Currently yes, natural diamonds hold their value better and command higher resale prices. Lab-grown diamond prices have fallen significantly as production has scaled up. Whether that premium is worth paying is a personal decision about what matters most to you.
Can you tell a natural diamond from a lab-grown one by looking at it?
No, the two are visually indistinguishable even to a trained gemologist without specialist equipment. A reputable diamond should come with a grading certificate from GIA or another accredited lab that confirms whether it is natural or lab-grown.
