Ring Size Chart Australia

No chart displayed on a screen is reliably actual size, and that includes this one. Phones and monitors render at different scales, so a circle that measures 17mm on one screen can measure 15mm on another. The millimetre figures in the chart are the real measurements, which means the accurate way to use it is to measure the finger or an existing ring with a ruler, then read the size off the table.

For a finger, wrap a strip of paper or string where the ring will sit, mark the overlap and measure the length in millimetres. That is the circumference column. For an existing ring, measure the widest inside distance in millimetres. That is the diameter column. The how-to-measure guide walks through each method with photos.

A standard card is 85.6mm wide, so if the card outline on the print does not match a real card, the printer has scaled the page and every reading will be wrong. The physical sizes are the same; only the labels differ. A finger that takes an Australian M takes a US 6¼ because both describe the same 52.5mm of inside circumference. Australia and the UK label sizes with letters, the US and Canada use numbers, and neither system needs recalculating, just reading across the chart.

The whole-number US sizes land on Australian half letters: a US 5 is a J½, a US 6 is an L½, a US 7 is an N½, a US 8 is a P½, a US 9 is an R½ and a US 10 is a T½. If you only have a circumference in millimetres, the US size is roughly that number minus 36.5, divided by 2.55. A 52.5mm circumference gives (52.5 - 36.5) ÷ 2.55, which is a US 6¼, the same answer the chart gives for M.

Work out whether your number is a circumference or a diameter, then read it against the matching column. Ring circumferences run from about 44 to 70mm and diameters from about 14 to 22mm, so the size of the number tells you which one you have. A measurement in centimetres converts by multiplying by ten: 5.5cm around the finger is 55mm, which is an Australian O to O½.

A few examples from the chart: a 52mm circumference is an L½ to M (US 6 to 6¼), a 17mm diameter is an M½ to N (US 6½ to 6¾), an 18mm diameter is a P to P½ (US 7¾ to 8) and a 2cm diameter, which is 20mm, is a U (US 10¼). The circumference column doubles as the EU size, so a European 54 stamp inside a band means a 54mm circumference, an Australian N to N½.

Most Australian women wear between K and P, and the two most common sizes are M and N. The rows below cover the typical women's range from H to R, so if you are sizing an engagement ring or dress ring blind, this is the part of the chart the answer almost certainly sits in.

Most Australian men wear between R and W, with T to U the most common, which is a US 9 to 10. The rows below cover the typical men's range from P to Z½. Men's wedding bands are usually 4mm to 6mm wide, and a band that wide sits tighter than the sizer suggests, so order a half size up from the measured size.
