WHAT IS A BEZEL?

THE ANSWER

A bezel is one of the oldest ways to set a gemstone. Instead of prongs, you use a continuous strip of metal. The jeweller bends it to match the stone's shape. They solder it to the base. Then they push the metal over the stone's edge to lock it down. There are two types. A full bezel wraps all the way round. A semi-bezel holds two sides and leaves the rest open. The finish is sleek and snag-free.
