Do I need a special wedding band for a hidden halo ring?
Quick answer
Usually a thin spacer band rather than a specially shaped one. The risk with a hidden halo is the side-set diamonds rubbing against a diamond wedding band, which wears the prongs and can loosen stones. A plain 1mm spacer between the engagement ring and the wedding band keeps that contact off. If the hidden halo sits high enough up the basket, a normal band can sometimes slide underneath without touching.
Three options for pairing the band
The first option is a thin plain spacer band of 1 to 1.5mm, sitting between the engagement ring and the wedding band so the two diamond sets never make contact. The second is a low-profile plain wedding band shaped to slide under the hidden halo without touching, which works only if the halo is high enough on the basket and the band thin enough. The third is a contoured band shaped to dip away from the halo entirely, which adds modest cost but solves the rubbing problem cleanly. Try the engagement ring against sample bands in person before committing, since each hidden halo head sits at a slightly different height.
