Definition

Stacking rings are slim bands designed to be worn layered together on a single finger, mixed and matched in any combination of metals, textures and gemstones. The look can be as minimal as two plain gold bands or as elaborate as a full knuckle of graduated, contrasting rings, and the whole appeal is that it is endlessly personal and changeable. They usually have a low profile and a rounded or flat inner surface so multiple rings sit comfortably together. Stacking also applies to bangles and bracelets layered along the wrist.

Frequently asked questions

How many rings can you stack on one finger?
There are no rules, and it depends on the width of the bands and your personal comfort. Most people find two to five rings works well before the stack starts to feel bulky or restricts knuckle movement. Thinner bands allow more without feeling heavy.
Can you mix metals when stacking rings?
Absolutely. Mixing yellow gold, white gold, rose gold and silver is very popular and gives a collected, personal feel. The main thing to be mindful of is hardness; avoid pairing very soft metals with harder ones in the same stack if you wear them every day, as the softer one will scratch faster.
Can an engagement ring be worn in a stack?
Yes, stacking an engagement ring with a wedding band and one or two additional bands is one of the most popular ways to wear them. The key is choosing bands that are slim enough to sit neatly alongside the engagement ring without competing with the centre stone.
