What Is a Half Bezel Setting? Full vs Partial Bezel

A half bezel, also called a partial bezel, holds a gemstone with metal rims over two opposing sides while leaving the other edges open. A full bezel surrounds the whole stone. The partial design shows more of the gem and creates a lighter profile, but it protects less of the edge than a complete rim. Security depends on sound construction and a close fit between the metal and the stone.

Is a half bezel secure?
A well-made half bezel can be secure for daily wear because two fitted metal sections hold the stone. A full bezel offers more protection around vulnerable edges.
Does a half bezel make a diamond look bigger?
The open sides expose more of the outline, which can make the stone feel less enclosed. It does not change the diamond's actual dimensions.
Is a half bezel easier to clean than a full bezel?
The open sides provide better access behind the stone, though lotion and soap can still collect under the setting and should be removed with gentle cleaning.
