Can I remove the halo from an engagement ring?
Quick answer
Technically yes, but it is significant work. The halo is usually cast as part of the ring head, so the jeweller has to cut off the head, solder on a new solitaire head and reset the centre stone. In most cases it is cheaper and cleaner to lift the centre stone out and reset it into a new mounting designed as a solitaire from the start.
What to expect from the conversation
Bring the ring in and ask for both options side by side: cut and modify the existing ring, or build a new solitaire mounting and move the stone. The second is more predictable in finish and usually quotes within a tight range, especially if the original ring is not from the same studio.
