How Long Does a Custom Engagement Ring Take to Make?

A custom engagement ring takes 4 to 6 weeks to make once you approve the design, and about 6 to 8 weeks from your first conversation with the jeweller to the ring arriving. The exact time depends on how complex the design is, how many rounds of revisions you want, and the quality checks the ring goes through before it ships.

The making time is only part of the wait. Before a jeweller can start, the design has to be agreed and the stone chosen, and after the ring is finished it still has to be delivered.

This is how a custom ring comes together with us, and how long each stage usually takes:

The biggest variable is the design stage, because it runs at your pace. A ring based on one of our existing designs with a few changes can be approved quickly, while a design built from scratch may take more rounds.

Consultation. You start from one of our designs, bring us one you found elsewhere, or design something new, by video call or email. You work with Brie directly from the first conversation.

Design and CAD. We change the design as many times as it takes, then render it in CAD. CAD, or computer-aided design, lets a jeweller build a three-dimensional model of the ring on a computer that can be rotated and examined from any angle before anything is made, so you see your exact ring first. Revisions stay unlimited at that stage too.

Choosing the stone. Your centre stone is chosen alongside the design, because the setting's claws are made to fit its measurements. Our guide to choosing your own lab-grown diamond covers what to check.

Making the ring. Once you approve the design, our jewellers, setters and polishers make the ring by hand. It is cast in your chosen metal, every stone is hand checked before it is set, and the ring is finished and polished with quality checks at every step. This is the 4 to 6 weeks.

Delivery. The ring ships fully insured and tracked, and we keep you updated from the first consultation until it arrives.

• A more complex design. Halos, pavé bands, hidden details and toi et moi rings with two centre stones have more stones to set and more metalwork to finish than a plain solitaire.
• More rounds of revisions. Each change to the design adds time before making can start. Taking the time to get it right is worth it, but allow for it if you have a date.
• Changes after approval. Changing the ring size, setting or engraving once the ring is being made can push the timeline back.
• An uncommon stone. An unusual shape or size can take longer to find than a round or oval.
• Quality checks. If a check finds something that is not right, such as a claw or a finish, the ring goes back to the bench before it ships.

Most quote a similar range, but they measure it from different points, which makes them hard to compare. These are the timelines each jeweller published on 17 September 2026:

When you compare quotes, ask whether the time starts at your first appointment, your deposit or your design approval, and whether it ends when the ring is dispatched or when it reaches you.

Start at least 8 to 10 weeks before the date. That covers the 6 to 8 weeks to design, make and deliver the ring, with a buffer for revisions, a busy workshop or a shipping delay. Does the 4 to 6 weeks start when I order?

It starts when you approve the final design. The consultation and design stage come first, which is why the total from first conversation to delivery is about 6 to 8 weeks.

Why does a custom ring take longer than one off the shelf?

A custom ring is made for you after the design is approved. It has to be modelled, cast, set, polished and checked, while a ring in stock only needs sizing and a final check.

Can a custom engagement ring be made faster?

If you have a date, tell us at your first consultation so we can plan the design and making around it. Asking at the start gives you far more options than asking near the end.
