1 Carat Lab Diamond Ring Price in Australia

Our complete 1 carat lab-grown diamond engagement rings cost $2,950 to $4,350 in solid 18k gold, and a little more in platinum. Every one has a 1.00 to 1.09ct centre diamond in E to F colour and VVS1 clarity with an IGI report, set on a 2mm band, and the price includes the diamond and the setting.

Emerald cuts are the most affordable shape at this weight, from $2,950, and rounds start at $3,200. The cheapest design in each shape:

Halo, pavé and three stone designs cost more than the plain solitaire in the same shape. If you would rather choose your own stone and have 14k gold, our ring builder starts lower, at about $2,400 for a 1 carat round in a 14k gold solitaire. Across the market, the lab-grown specialists we checked on 16 September 2026 priced complete 1ct rings between $2,611 and $4,170, depending on metal, setting and stone grade.

Every "from" price you meet online is anchored to a different stone, so split the range into its three parts:

• The loose stone. Every 1.00 to 1.09ct lab-grown diamond on our feed is D, E or F colour at VS1 clarity or better. On 28 September 2026 most ran $1,180 to $1,530, with a median of $1,297. There is no cheaper tinted tier underneath that range.
• The setting. A made-to-order solid gold or platinum solitaire runs $1,260 to $1,910 at our studio, depending on metal, band width and style.
• The complete ring. Stone plus setting. It is the only number worth comparing between jewellers, and only when the grade and the karat match.

Every price is AUD and includes GST. Other retailers' prices were checked on 16 September 2026, and none was marked as a sale price on the day. Ours is the current price of the 1 carat Hailey.

The retailer rows are the cheapest 1 carat configuration each one sells rather than their headline ring, so this is a floor, not a typical basket. Temple & Grace appear twice because their cheapest 1ct price is a 9k band, which is 37.5% gold against 75% in 18k. The two mined rows carry the same carat weight as everything above them, at colours and clarities nobody picks with a lab-grown stone on the tray beside them.

Two of those retailers do not publish a loose 1 carat lab-grown price, which is why the Loose column is empty for them. Temple & Grace do sell loose diamonds, but that range is natural only and starts at $9,435 for a 1.00ct G SI2. Cullen quote a stone as a difference against the ring it sits in, never on its own, so there is no standalone figure to put in the column.

Moi Moi’s $699 is what each of the six 1 carat round lab-grown stones they held in store that day cost. Those stones run 1.00 to 1.07ct, D or E colour, VS1 or VVS2 clarity, ideal cut, IGI certified. It is less than the cheapest 1 carat round on our feed, $1,157 on 28 September 2026, and you should know that before you read the rest of this page. The gap closes once the stone is set, because their cheapest finished 1 carat lab-grown ring is $3,970, while our complete 1 carat rings start at $2,950.

Because "1 carat" fixes only the weight. Four things explain almost every gap:

• Colour and clarity. Moi Moi charge $200 to move from E-F at VS1-VS2 up to D at VVS1-VVS2 on the same setting. That is the grade premium at this weight, and it is small. The real gap is between a named D VS1 stone and an unnamed one, which is what sits behind most "from" prices.
• Metal karat. The same design in 9k, 14k and 18k is three different prices for the same stone. Temple & Grace publish all three and the spread is $750. Any comparison that does not name the karat is noise.
• Overheads. A ring sold through five showrooms carries five showrooms, and that accounts for most of the distance between the top and the bottom of the table above.
• What the price includes. Ask whether the first resize is included, whether the ring ships with the stone's grading report, and whether you get a valuation suitable for insurance. Those extras are worth a few hundred dollars and differ between studios more than the headline prices do.

Yes, by about 20% between the cheapest and the dearest, and not in the direction most people guess. Rounds are not the most expensive shape on our feed today. Cushions are. Below is the cheapest stone in each shape on 16 September 2026, with the complete-ring price in the same 14k gold 1.8mm basket solitaire at $1,260.

Shape pricing moves with what the cutting factories have run recently, so that ordering is a snapshot rather than a rule. The spread holds, though: at 1 carat, changing shape is worth about $200 on the stone, less than moving from 14k to 18k gold. Pick the shape you want and spend the difference on the metal or the cut.

About $1,271 on our feed on 16 September 2026, taking the middle stone rather than the arithmetic mean. The mean is $1,420, and the gap matters: a handful of exceptional stones, one of them $25,073, drag the mean up where the median holds steady. Half the 530 stones sit between $1,187 and $1,463, and nine in ten are under $1,603.

Clarity is what moves the number most at this weight.

Every stone in that set is D, E or F colour, which holds colour roughly steady and lets clarity do the moving. Stepping from VS1 to VVS1 costs about $240 in the middle of the range, and neither grade shows an inclusion without a loupe.

These are one-of-one stones, so the individual diamonds behind those figures will have sold by the time you read this. Take the range rather than any single price. Growers also keep changing what they run, so this is a dated snapshot rather than a standing quote, and we re-check it rather than letting it sit.

The bottom two rows are the comparison most Australians are actually making: a 1 carat round on a claw solitaire. Ours is an E to F colour VVS1 stone with an IGI report in 18k gold at $3,200. The other is an I+ colour I2 stone in 14 karat white gold at $9,499, and I2 means inclusions visible without a loupe. Nearly three times the price for a stone that grades lower on both scales that matter, in a lower karat of gold.

Both stones are crystallised carbon graded on the same scales, and the difference is origin and rarity, which we cover in lab-grown vs natural diamonds. Mined keeps an edge on long-term monetary value. On what actually sits on the hand, the lab-grown stone is whiter, cleaner and about a third of the money.

Yes, and it looks the same on the hand. Prices step up at the round-number weights because that is what buyers search for, so a 0.90 to 0.99ct stone typically sits below an otherwise identical 1.00ct. A 0.90ct round faces up around 6.2mm against 6.4mm for a 1.00ct, two tenths of a millimetre that nobody will notice. The same logic runs the other way just above the line, which is why a 1.03ct or a 1.07ct stone priced like a 1.00ct is normal rather than a windfall. If a stone just under the magic number appears on the feed with the grade you want, it is usually the best value on the page.

Almost anything. A 1ct centre is roughly 200 milligrams sitting close to the finger, so it does not need the structural overbuild a 3 carat stone does. Our working notes:

• A 1.8mm band is enough in 14k or 18k gold. That is the cheapest configuration we sell, and the heavier 2mm and 2.5mm bands are a choice about proportion rather than safety.
• Four prongs are fine. Six prongs or a bezel buy a little more security and a slightly smaller face-up look.
• A basket or cathedral base spreads impact into the shank, and it is $150 or less on our settings.
• V-prongs on any point, for pear and marquise tips.

Most Australian home and contents policies cap unspecified valuables between $1,000 and $3,000 per item, so a $3,000 to $4,500 ring sits right on that line and usually needs to be listed individually. Do it in the same week the ring arrives rather than after the first scare, insure at replacement value with the grading report and a dated valuation on file, and revalue every couple of years because lab-grown replacement pricing moves. These are the prices two US retailers that ship to Australia showed an Australian visitor on 17 September 2026, for their cheapest round lab-grown diamond of 1.00 to 1.09 carats in D to F colour, VS1 clarity or better and an Ideal cut, in their plain 14k gold four-claw setting.

The totals are not like for like. Brilliant Earth shows its Australian prices with taxes included. Blue Nile converts its US dollar prices into Australian dollars and says in its international policy that duties, taxes and import fees are not included, so its ring would cost about $2,266 once 10% GST is added, plus a border processing charge and any customs duty. The two settings also differ in band width.
